Pearl is a magnificent dog that has waited her entire two years of life to be appreciated. She was found running along the Quebec border with her brother in the summer. They were picked up by a caring couple who thought they could take them to the shelter but found out that if they did that the dogs would be put down. The next option was to give them to a northern rescue which is what they did. The brother had clearly relied on his sister for guidance and confidence so when they were split up he became defensive and unsure. Pearl was outgoing and friendly even on her own though.
When I heard about these dogs through mutual contacts I felt for them and wanted to help. The brother was being fostered in a home where he was tied outside so I asked for him first. He had some issues but after working with a trainer we found for him he became the proud and noble dog he was meant to be.
I really thought Pearl would have been adopted easily but just recently I heard she had been passed from foster home to foster home up north and had taken to escaping when she could. Her last venture caused her to cut her leg open and she required stitches when she was caught and returned.
After hearing this I knew I had to ask for Pearl to come to me as well. I can't say why but these dogs have touched my soul.
Pearl is now with one of our foster families and she is proving herself to be a real delight. They have three dogs and they all get along. Pearl, like her brother, speaks in a low grown which is her way of asking for something. Both are expressive and want very much to belong.
Pearl got out of the house on her own one day and returned immediately when called. This shows how much she appreciates the chance she has been given. She is a sweet and caring dog with joy in her heart and spirit in her soul. Both she and Professor are wonderful with children and they seem to come alive more when around them. Makes me wonder who they had to leave behind.
Pearl needs stability and devotion in her life. She needs to be with people and not left alone for hours. This is all she has known in life it seems and she is worth so much more. She needs to connect and be a contributing member of a family. She is a big dog with a big heart that has been going to waste over the last while. We have a lot to make up to Pearl and we intend to do so.
